's new book that takes us behind the scenes at the obama white house. john harris has the preview. >> joining us now for politico turn the table is the host of abc's "this week." bob woodward has a new book, on national security and war. obama's war, causing a big stirrer, as it is a hocalled. >> the white house chief spokesman, robert gibbs, has said he read the whole thing and he says it is accurate. bob woodward has a very established history writing these books. he goes to everybody. he talks to everybody. we know how many of his books have been out about various subjects, all bestsellers, often giving interesting looks inside the process as is happening and developing. i don't think it claims to make any sort of long-term conclusions and judgments over the strategy, but it is the process as it is going on. i think we know also as the process is going on, the review that took some people painfully long, there were leaks all the time about how many differences there were within the administration over what was coming out. we know for instance that vice- president biden was comm

know so far. mike, what can you tell us? >> good morning, pamela. well, the smell of smoke is still in the air after this massive fire in manassas. to give you an idea how much smoke and ash is still in the air. news chopper 7 captured dramatic pictures from this manassas subdivision. neighbors called 911 when they saw the smoke, and moments later they saw the house was engulfed in flames. firefighters from manassas and prince william county, they say high winds caused burning embers to jump from one house to the next. firefighters were able to knock down the houses, but after that, there was little left. and with such dry conditions, firefighters did remain on scene . every 15 or 20 minutes that they have gone through the different parts of these homes and knocked down hot spots and embers using their hose, the red cross and emergency management are assisting the displaced families. that's the latest from manassas. >> ok, mike. thank you. >>> investigators are still trying to determine what caused a fire that killed a mother and two of her children. 24-year-old alli anderson and he

. nine u.s. soldiers have been killed. let's go to miguel marquez in afghanistan with the latest. miguel? >> reporter: in addition, to the nine soldiers killed, one u.s. soldiered injured, one afghan death, as well. it's just north of where i am, in kandahar province. it happened in zabul province, a mountainous region. troops are coming here every day by the hundreds or thousands. the last time the u.s. suffered this bad a crash was back in 2006, when a chinook went down. we're not entirely certain what type of chopper this was. the taliban has claimed credit. but u.s. officials here say there's no credible claim of enemy fire in that region. and they still don't know what brought the chopper down. often, the taliban takes credit for these things just to do it. this is part of an overall effort here in kandahar and across the country. the surge of troops that president obama ordered are in-country. and they are moving into the final phase of that surge, getting ready, getting into the hottest of the offensive operations. but they will be conducting. it is likely that we're going to see

this morning. courtney robinson brings us the latest. >> it was a series of crimes that led them -- led the police to cousy's -- southeast washington and lead to a shoot out. >> it was crazy and i was asleep and i heard about 20 gunshot. >> prince george's county officers say at 2:30 this morning a man robbed someone on kenilworth avenue and 45 minutes later, they got a call about a carjacking. officers responded and got into a high-speed chase with two men in this car. the car had maryland tax. >> the suspect lost control of their vehicle during their pursuit. they bailed out of the suspect vehicle and they exchanged gunfire with uniformed prince george's county police officers. >> police offices also responded to shots off minnesota avenue and arrested one man and a couple of hours later arrested another. they found a handgun and they believe one of the suspects pounded them when they started shooting, they stopped a couple of men and they started all over again ban on no one was injured but officers closed down minnesota avenue to investigate. >> residents did not expect to wake up t
